As a student, learning how to manage your time is crucial.

You probably have a lot to do and not much time to complete everything.

You have to go to school, do homework, study for exams, participate in extracurricular activities, and some of you may have part-time jobs.

Oh, and you have to sleep as well.

So how can you do all of these things in a day?

Well, if you want to do a lot of activities in a day, you first have to prioritize your main tasks, which for you is schoolwork, and complete them.

Once these tasks are done, then you can go off and do the other things.

So, here are some tips on how to use time management to finish your schoolwork so that you have time to do other activities:

1) Figure out what needs to be completed first

In school, like in life, there are things that are more important than others.

Thus, when it comes to your schoolwork, you have to figure out what needs to be done or worked on first.

If an assignment is due soon or will require more time to work on, you have to do that task first.

Or if there is a topic that you know you will need more time and focus to work on, prioritize that work.

2) Create a dedicated time slot for schoolwork

The best way to ensure that you will do and finish your homework (especially if you have a lot of activities on your plate) is to have a dedicated time slot for doing it.

It can be right after school, in the evening after dinner, or 3 hours before school. It doesn’t matter when.

You just need a few hours each day that are dedicated to schoolwork.

Additionally, once you do it regularly and consistently enough, it will become a habit.

3) Create a schedule or detailed to-do list

Linking back to the first tip, once you figure out what needs to be completed first, second, third, etc., you have to write it down as a to-do list.

The reason why is because when you write it down, you’ll remember what you need to do and in what order.

If you just tried to remember your schedule, you’ll forget it.

Trust me.

You’ll get caught up with your other tasks (especially if they frustrate you) and will for sure forget to do an assignment.

Hence, write down your schedule or to-do list.

You can also do it the day before or first thing in the morning to save time.

4) Keep schoolwork organized

To be able to do that, you need to keep your work organized.

If your schoolwork is all over the place, how are you supposed to know what needs to be done, let alone know what needs to be done first?

Thus, you have to keep your things organized. Divide your binder or notebooks into subjects.

Keep your school papers, such as assignments, syllabuses, or exam study guides, in a folder or duo-tang or dedicated spot in your binder.

These are just some suggestions. You have to figure out what system works best for you.

5) Don’t procrastinate. Focus on the task

One of the best ways to cut down homework time is to not procrastinate.

When you procrastinate (or try to multitask), you’re not fully focused on what you’re supposed to be doing, thus increasing the time that you spend doing it.

So, when you’re doing homework, just do your homework.

You can take breaks every now and then (and should), but when you’re working, focus on the task at hand.

6) Use the Pomodoro technique

One of the best methods for preventing dilly-dallying during homework time is the Pomodoro technique.

This is a productivity method that breaks work time into chunks of 20-25 minutes.
